Course Description:
In this class we will extend last year’s exploration of early cultures, to present day geography themes, with a primary focus on the Eastern Hemisphere. Students will learn through various mediums, such as hands on learning, small group activities, and various technology tools. Students will experience diverse topics in history; culture, civics, economics, current events and global issues within the Eastern Hemisphere.
Required Materials:
Pencils
Colored pencils
Loose-leaf paper
1.5-inch binder
a thumb drive is suggested not required
3 Ring Binder/Organizational tool:
Students are required to have a three ring binder with a front pocket, loose leaf paper and dividers. This is to be used ONLY for Social Studies. Students will use this to store daily work, takes notes, and store graded assignments. If you have an organizational tool such as an accordion file that you find better suits your organizational needs, that is great, just make sure it is devoted to Social Studies.
Grading:
-Projects, special assignments and class work will be graded using a rubric of 1-4. Four being the highest grade you can receive.
-Homework assignments will be graded on a scale of 0 -10.
√ + = 10 points
√ = 8 points
√- = 6 points
Assignments:
-You will be required to upload most assignments to my drop box account.
-If you do not have access to a computer please be sure to speak to me, I WILL make it possible for you to complete the assignments. There will be approximately 1 per week.
-I will update the weekly assignments box every week. It is your RESPONSIBILITY to check the weekly assignments, complete the task, and upload the assignment to drop box. You WILL receive points for doing so.
Weekly assignments will be due every Friday, or the last day of the school week before midnight.

Make-up work:
-You are responsible for all work when you are absent.
-There is an “absent” binder that contains absent work you will need to check when you return. There will also be a student each hour recording what was discussed that day for you to copy.
Late paper policy:
-All papers are expected to be turned in on time
-Special make-up sessions with be available during lunch or after school according to Mrs. Owens’ discretion. Responsibility is the key to success!
